A village cricket club in Herefordshire is seeking permission to use a second pitch which has already been played on for nearly four years.

Aston Ingham Cricket Club, near the Gloucestershire border, applied for retrospective permission for its Mill Meadow pitch, south of Mill Lane, which it said had been in use since early 2020.

“The number of teams the club needs to cater for makes it impossible to only be based on one pitch,” the club said.

A women's softball team and a fourth XI team were added to their line up last year.

The club also has five junior sides in four age categories.

The club said in its application: “No other local clubs are able to put out four Saturday league teams each weekend, and even the larger towns such as Ross-on-Wye are only able to put two teams out each weekend.”

There is a white shipping container at the pitch, for equipment storage, while an area to the north of the pitch is used for parking on match days.

The main clubhouse is across the road from the second pitch, along with tennis courts and the club’s main pitch.
