Plans have been submitted for new sports pitches and a pavilion in Newdale, Shropshire.

Telford and Wrekin Council said the new facilities were much-needed after outline permission for the scheme was granted a decade ago.

The proposals feature a new 3G synthetic pitch, suitable for a range of sports, and a new nine vs nine grass pitch, along with a single-storey pavilion with a kitchen, toilets and changing facilities.

The scheme will also include provision for disabled parking, coach parking, cycle storage and electric vehicle charging at the site opposite Blackbird Close, on Waterloo Road, the council said.

Council leader Shaun Davies said the application was the next step towards delivering the new facility.

“The new pitches will meet the design requirements of both Sport England and the Football Foundation, offering high standard facilities for players of all ages and abilities and, alongside the new pavilion too, will create a space that will benefit the local community,” he said.

The need for a 3G pitch in the area was highlighted in the authority’s Playing Pitch Strategy.
