A woman accused of attempting to murder a man and a child has appeared in court.

Jacqueline Mounsey, 53, is accused of stabbing the pair at Whernside, off Queensway in Carlisle, on 10 June.

The man and a primary school aged girl suffered stab wounds to the neck, prosecutors previously said.

No pleas were entered at Carlisle Crown Court. A further hearing has been set for August and a provisional trial date scheduled for 9 December.

Ms Mounsey, of Whernside, faces two charges of attempted murder.

She was told she would remain remanded in custody and is due to return to the same court on 9 August.

Cumbria Police confirmed the child has been discharged from hospital following treatment, while a man also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder remains on bail.
