Singer Bambie Thug is to represent Ireland at the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest.

The artist, from Macroom in County Cork, will sing Doomsday Blue and has promised to do Ireland proud.

Six competitors performed on The Late Late Show Eurovision Special on RTÉ on Friday.

The winner was chosen by the combined votes of the public phone vote, an international jury and a national jury.

Bambie Thug will travel to Malmo in Sweden in May to perform in the semi-finals.

Speaking to Late Late Show host Patrick Kielty after winning, Bambi Thug said: "I don’t know how I feel – I feel incredible.

"My words are gone - as a lyricist you’d think I’d have more to say but I’m speechless – I’m so excited and I promise I’m going to do you so proud."

A panel of experts joined Kielty in the studio.

Dancing with the Stars judge Arthur Gourounlian, 1993 UK Eurovision entrant Sonia, RTÉ Radio 1 broadcaster Louise Duffy and comedian Gearóid Farrelly made up the panel.

The other competing acts were: 

Sweden is hosting Eurovision 2024 after Swedish icon Loreen won the 2023 trophy with the jackhammer pop anthem Tattoo.

It was her second Eurovision victory, having previously won in 2012 with Euphoria.

Sweden is now tied with Ireland for the most Eurovision victories, with seven.

Two semi-finals will take place on 7 and 9 May followed by the final on Saturday 11 May.Ìý  

The draw to determine which semi-final Ireland will compete and vote in will take place on 30 January.

Previous Irish Eurovision winners include Dana, Johnny Logan,  Linda Martin, Niamh Kavanagh, Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan and Eimear Quinn.
