Two boys aged 14 and 15 have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the stabbing of a man named by police on Monday as 25-year-old Tom Ellis.
The Warwickshire force was called to an incident outside the Ropewalk Shopping Centre on Queens Road, Nuneaton, shortly before 21:30 BST on Saturday.
Mr Ellis, from St Nicholas Park, Nuneaton, was taken to hospital where he died, police said.
They added his next of kin had been informed, and a post-mortem exam would be carried out in the coming days.
Anyone with information, or CCTV or dashcam footage, has been asked to contact police.
Ch Insp Kris Shore said: “This is a tragic incident of senseless violence right in the centre of our community, and we will not stop until we identify, arrest, and charge those responsible for it.
“Our thoughts are with Tom’s family, and we will be providing them with dedicated support throughout the investigation and following criminal process.”
