Staff and guests have been told to leave a hotel by managers who closed it with immediate effect.

The closure comes after the company that runs The George Hotel in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, reportedly went into liquidation.

Its staff were told the hotel would be boarded up by 15:00 BST and they would not be paid, a manager told ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Stoke.

Tenants of the hotel are believed to be vulnerable and the manager added the news had left employees devastated.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council said it had been made aware of the hotel's closure on Thursday morning.

Any households that had been placed there by the local authority had been contacted and offered suitable alternative accommodation, the council stated.
