Police are on the hunt for a joyrider who ended up crashing a telescopic forklift into a tree.

The vehicle was taken from a building site in Peterlee between 07:00 and 07:25 GMT on Thursday and then driven along several roads before it struck the tree.

Durham Police have appealed for information about the theft.

Officers said they are particularly keen to hear from anybody who may have CCTV footage either from the site on Stephenson Road or the joyrider's subsequent journey.

The vehicle is thought to have been driven along Armstrong Road, Eden Lane, Chapel Hill Road, Keswick Road, and Thirlmere Road, before coming to a halt on Edenhill Road.
