Talks are under way to build a new swimming pool at a secondary school site.
Telford and Wrekin Council said it hopes the council-run facility will be built at the Telford Langley School in Dawley.
It will be open for use by the general public as well as local schools.
The new pool will be named the Captain Matthew Webb swimming pool, in honour of the first recorded person to swim across the English Channel.
The 150th anniversary of the swim completed by Dawley-born Capt Webb is due to be celebrated in 2025.
The authority said it hopes the new pool will offer family swimming sessions, lane swimming, water-based exercise classes and general public swimming.
