A criminal case has been dropped against a police officer who was accused of causing the death of a man in a crash in Evesham.

Driver Marcus Evans, 59, died at the scene on Elm Road on 27 January 2022.

PC Abigail Myers, now 30, had been responding to an emergency call at the time and had denied causing death by dangerous driving and an alternative charge of causing death by careless driving.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said following "evidential developments in this case", it concluded there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.

At a hearing at Worcester Crown Court on 12 March, the prosecution offered no evidence on both counts and the defendant was discharged, the CPS said.

It added it had met with Mr Evans' family to explain its decision in more detail.
