A controlled explosion has taken place in a Warwickshire town after the discovery of what police described as a "historic device".

Police were called to Mavor Drive in Bedworth at around 13:30 BST on Sunday after several objects were found, including the device.

The road was closed and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called to assess the device.

In a statement at about 17:30, Nuneaton and Bedworth Police said the EOD team had carried out a controlled explosion and the road had been reopened.
