Four boys have been arrested on suspicion of rape after a teenage girl was attacked in Nottinghamshire.

Police received reports of a serious sexual assault in the Yorke Drive playing fields in Newark on Saturday.

Two boys aged 15 and another boy, 16, were arrested on Monday and released on bail.

A fourth boy, also 16, was arrested on Tuesday and remains in custody.

Nottinghamshire Police said it happened between 17:30 and 19:00 BST.

The force said the boys were bailed under β€œstrict conditions” and that there has been an increased presence of police officers in the area since.

Neighbourhood Insp Charlotte Ellam added: β€œThis incident is understandably going to cause a great deal of alarm and distress in the Newark community.

β€œI want to reassure the public we are doing everything we can to establish what happened.

β€œThe public can expect to see increased patrols in the area.”
