A 43-year-old man has been jailed after he dragged a woman into a bedroom and raped her.

Hamza Badat, formerly of Levington Road in Ipswich, was sentenced to eight years in prison at Ipswich Crown Court.

Suffolk Police said the woman, who was 22 years old at the time, met Badat at a mutual friend's house in the town in October 2018.

The two were not known to each other before the attack.

Det Con Damian Richer said: β€œThis assault on a vulnerable woman was a despicable act and one that the victim has had to live with.

"In her impact statement she said she will β€˜carry this with me, like a nail in the back, with no choice'."

Badat was found guilty of rape after a five-day trial.

He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely.
