Police have been caught in a standoff at a petrol station, with reports of a man barricaded inside.
A video circulating online appeared to show items being thrown through a window at the Esso garage on St Cuthbertβs Way in Newton Aycliffe.
At about 19:00 GMT, a spokesman for Durham Constabulary said the road was likely to remain closed βfor some timeβ, with drivers advised to find an alternative route.
The Esso garage sits on one of the main routes out of Newton Aycliffe town centre.
Traffic came to a standstill as police cordoned off the road around the garage.
The ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ has contacted the emergency services and Esso for further information.
