A man has been jailed for manslaughter after admitting to strangling his partner at his home in Solihull.

Rafal Duszyca, 37, was found unconscious at a property in Chelmar Close in Smith's Wood, Solihull, on 1 July 2022 and died in hospital.

A post-mortem examination concluded the cause of death was applying pressure to the neck and coronary artery disease, West Midlands Police said.

Slawomir Tumilowicz, 37, of Chelmar Close, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to nine years in prison at Birmingham Crown Court on 28 March.

Tumilowicz, who had been initially arrested on suspicion of assault and then murder, told police the pair had been arguing and it had led to a fight on 30 June.

He said he had no intention of seriously hurting Mr Duszyca and that he was trying to stop him from hurting him, police said.

Det Ch Insp Hannah Whitehouse, of the force, added: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Rafal and I hope this sentence brings them some closure at this difficult time."
