A 63-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in connection with an assault on a man in Great Victoria Street on Thursday.

Footage of the incident circulating online appears to show Belfast City Council staff involved in an altercation with a member of the public.

The footage seen by Â鶹ԼÅÄ News NI appears to show three street cleaners fighting a man on Thursday at about 03:00 BST in the city centre.

The man remains in custody.

In a statement, Belfast City Council (BCC) said they were "aware" of the footage and "urgently" looking into the incident.

The PSNI previously stated they were "assessing the content" of the footage and "liaising with Belfast City Council" as part of the investigation.

A spokesperson for the BCC said they were prioritising looking into the incident in line with internal policies.

"As this is also now a live police investigation, we cannot comment any further at this stage," they added.
