Sedgemoor dog walkers face fines over mess

  • Published

Pet owners in Somerset have been warned they could end up in court, or be fined for failing to pick up dog mess.

Sedgemoor District Council has ordered its wardens to issue fixed penalty fines to offenders in public places.

It says dog wardens are patrolling parks and public areas to keep an eye out for culprits.

Fines range from £50 to £70 and offenders could end up in court if they fail to pay.

An authority spokesman said: "It is a big issue, it's growing and we want people to take it seriously now that the council is taking it to the end point."
