A street lighting team from Gloucestershire is inviting people to find out how they can cut down on using lights at night.

The county council scheme was launched last year and street lights in some rural areas were turned off or dimmed between 2200 and 0530.

The council said it had made savings of over £200,000 and claimed a carbon reduction of 1,392 tonnes.

The public meeting is on 7 July at 1900 BST in Gretton Village Hall.

Lesley Smith, from the council's street lighting team, said: "The results speak for themselves; we know what we're doing is making a real difference, both environmentally and financially.

"Some people may be sceptical about lights being dimmed or switched off, but each scheme is bespoke and tailored to the needs of the parish and we wouldn't do anything people weren't happy with."

The council said 59 parish and town councils were taking part in the night lighting project with 32 more signed up to join the project.
