This year's Glasto is meant to be the year of the rock revival. But it's also meant to be the year of the grime takeover. And the year extreme metal came to Somerset. So which one is it? There's only one way to find a winner: MOSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH PITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!
6. Good first try, Circa Waves
On Friday, Liverpool's finest Circa Waves kicked off the mosh pit wars when they played Goodbye. But the guys made a simple mistake: never go first when trying to create a festival's biggest mosh pit: you simply tell everyone what to beat.

5. Marathon moshing with Frank Carter
Circa Waves' pit was better than one band's: Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes'. Frank might have been a punk all his life, but from this clip, we're not 100% sure he knows what a mosh pit is! While playing a thunderous version of Jackals he got everyone to form a circle and then, well, just run around the outside of it. "Follow them! Follow them!" he shouted. At least we know Frank could have a nice sideline as a personal trainer if he wants one.
4. Extreme moshing with Napalm Death
If either of those bands really wanted to know how to mosh, they should have headed down to the Truth Stage to see grindcore legends Napalm Death. They created a pit so intense we're surprised anyone came out alive. We sent snapper Alex Robertson into it to take the above photo. We haven't heard from him since!
3. Slaves shutdown the competition
Okay, now we're getting somewhere. When you've got people getting this sweaty in a tent and moshing this hard, you know you're onto a winner. Slaves' surprise set on the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Introducing Stage was surely a highlight of Sunday and if their epic cover of Skepta's Shutdown doesn't get you moshing, go see a doctor. As a reward to the moshers, they even jumped into the crowd right after:
2. Finally! Some truly world-record moshing
Someone call Guinness, we might just have the biggest mosh pit ever seen. In fact, someone call NASA and ask them to check if you can see it from space. Stormzy's amazing set had dozens of mosh pits, but the one he marshalled for Know Me From was out of this world. "Bigger!" he shouted. "BIGGER!" The crowd, of course, did as they were told. Poor Circa Waves :(
1. But sorry, Stormz, you can't beat Katy Perry
Because Katy is a mosh pit starter herself. We haven't the faintest idea where she started one - perhaps at Napalm Death? - but before playing oldie Thinking of You, she said to the crowd. "I've been in the mosh pit. I've started the mosh pit. I've lost my shoes in a mosh pit, but found my soul. So I'm just one of you!" Katy, you legend.
Oh, and then she crowdsurfed too!
