World War One: Commemoration

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ programming to commemorate the centenary of World War One.

The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Events team will provide live coverage of the major national events in the UK and in Europe that commemorate this important anniversary.

From marking 100 years since the outbreak of war on 4 August 2014 through to the centenary of the Armistice on 11 November 2018, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ will cover all of the key moments including the anniversaries of Gallipoli, Jutland, the Somme and Passchendaele.

One of the most poignant ceremonies will be broadcast live on 4 August from the evocative setting of St Symphorien Military Cemetery located in Mons, Belgium. This cemetery was established in 1914 as the final resting place for both British and German soldiers who died at the Battle of Mons.

Senior correspondent Robert Hall will regularly report for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ News programmes on the significant moments and the individual stories behind them, while the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ News Channel will provide live coverage of events in the UK and Europe, and showcase reports from our local and regional news teams.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ News School Report will engage young audiences too – working closely with the English Schools Battlefield Tour.
