Arts programming on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Two this summer.

Published: 13 June 2018

This year the Royal Academy celebrates its 250th Summer Exhibition and artist Grayson Perry takes the helm to coordinate the world’s longest running and largest open-submission show.

Presented by Kirsty Wark and Jayson Mansaray (pictured) the programme comes from the very glamorous private view and goes behind the scenes of the Academy as it prepares for its annual artistic extravaganza. They meet the cast of people who have come together to make the show unique. Grayson Perry, in his role as chief coordinator, celebrates the democracy of the exhibition with the theme of Art Made Now - and creates a room of fun dedicated to pieces that he and his Summer Exhibition Hanging Committee find amusing.

Kirsty and Jayson delve into the fascinating process of curating and hanging this unique exhibition and follow a handful of talented aspiring artists from across the nation, including celebrities Harry Hill, Joe Lycett and Una Stubbs, who submitted their work in hope of a place in this hallowed institution.

They visit the celebrity artists creating work for this year’s show, including David Shrigley, Vic Reeves and Grayson Perry himself. They also meet up with one of Britain’s most accomplished sculptors - Anish Kapoor - whose monumental sculpture Symphony For A Beloved Sun will be installed in the Royal Academy courtyard.

As part of the 250th anniversary celebrations the Summer Exhibition will, for the first time spill out on to the streets of London’s West End. Artist Rose Wylie presents her flag installation which will be taking over Bond Street, and chart-topping singer-songwriter Anne-Marie performs live at the opening night party.

The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2018 is a 1x60 Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Studios Production and the Executive Producer is Janet Lee. The film was commissioned by Mark Bell.

Life Inside The Bell Jar

Sylvia Plath’s iconic novel The Bell Jar exploded the myth that women were content and life was sweet. It shone a light on 1950s gender politics, sexual identity and mental health at a time when women struggled to find a voice.

Life Inside the Bell Jar is the first documentary about Plath’s classic semi-autobiographical novel. It features the first ever interview on camera with Frieda Hughes about her mother, and has unprecedented access to people who knew Sylvia Plath, many of whom are talking publicly for the first time.

Blending beautifully shot interviews, impressionistic reconstruction, unpublished letters and photographs and a wealth of period archive that takes us back to the summer of 1953. This film is the story of an age, a person and a novel like no other.

Life Inside The Bell Jar (1x60) is directed by Teresa Griffiths. Siân Price and Angus McQueen are the Executive Producers for Yeti, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Commissioning Editor is Emma Cahusac.
