Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One Wales to broadcast Welsh Government’s daily news conference

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Cymru Wales will be broadcasting the Welsh Government’s daily news conference live on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ One Wales, from Monday 30 March.

The daily press conferences – between 12.30 and 1pm - are convened for the First Minister, Ministers and Public Health professionals to update on the current Coronavirus situation.

The press conference will also be repeated each afternoon on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Wales, as part of Gareth Lewis’s programme after 4pm as well as extracts and analysis on Radio Cymru’s Dros Ginio.

The announcement comes as Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Wales sees unprecedented demand for its news output. More than 700,000 viewers are tuning into Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Wales Today each day with the Newyddion team on S4C also attracting their biggest audiences of the year. Last week, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Wales’s online news services attracted millions of users while Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Wales and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Cymru are seeing a demand for up-to-date news, information and advice.

Director of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Cymru Wales, Rhodri Talfan Davies, says: “These are unprecedented times as the country responds to the greatest challenge we’ve faced in generations. And as you would expect the demand for news and information has been remarkable - with people tuning into Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ news, radio and online services in extraordinary numbers.

“Adding the Welsh Government’s daily news conference to our output means we’ll be bringing the very latest updates from Wales to our audiences each and every day, alongside Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Wales Today, radio bulletins and daily news programmes as well as a host of online content.”

Rhodri Talfan Davies also paid tribute to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Wales’s editorial teams for their commitment and hard work during the current crisis. He said: “Delivering all this would be impossible without the resilience and commitment of our production teams - and I am enormously grateful to them all. As you would expect, all our efforts right now our focused on sustaining these critical news and radio services while safeguarding the welfare and safety of our staff.

“I know the companionship and information these services are providing to hundreds of thousands of people across Wales is priceless right now,” he added.
