Word Cup Winners: 5 live surges as England succeeds

麻豆约拍 Radio 5 live has emerged as one of the winners of the World Cup as listeners have switched to the station for the latest from Russia 2018.
A record number of people have listened to 5 live’s podcasts and the station has seen a surge in online listening since the tournament started in June.
麻豆约拍 Radio 5 live has benefited from England’s most successful international campaign in decades, and one of the most unpredictable and entertaining World Cups in memory. The station has won plaudits for its fresh approach to covering the competition. And it has now secured the services of some of the stars of Russia 2018 for the new domestic football season starting in August.
Jonathan Wall, controller of 麻豆约拍 Radio 5 live, says: “We want to keep the momentum we have built in Russia going and it’s great to have some of the people who have made this World Cup so special back on air for new shows when the domestic season starts in August.”
Kelly Cates and Robbie Savage will get new shows and World Cup 5 live favourites Chris Sutton, Alistair Bruce-Ball, Dion Dublin, Pat Nevin and Chris Waddle will be regular voices on the station throughout the new football season.
Last month there were more than six million downloads of 麻豆约拍 Radio 5 live podcasts - a record monthly figure for the station. That includes more than two million downloads of the World Cup Daily podcast in June alone.
Online listening requests to 5 live have also risen sharply since June, peaking during England’s game with Columbia. Online listening to 5 live’s regular programming has seen a World Cup boost. 5 live Breakfast has seen online listening grow by 50 percent. Breakfast presenter Rachel Burden has been co-presenting the programme from Russia throughout the World Cup.
Kelly Cates has presented hours of live coverage from Russia 2018 on 麻豆约拍 Radio 5 live and co-hosts the World Cup Daily podcast. From August, she will become the regular presenter of 5 live’s sports coverage on Tuesday evenings. That means Kelly will introduce the station’s coverage of some of the biggest football games including UFEA Champion’s League matches. Mark Chapman, another Russia 2018 star, will continue presenting 5 live Sport on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Robbie Savage, who has hosted his World Cup Breakfast on 5 live throughout Russia 2018, will return with a new weekly show on the station. Robbie Savage’s Premier League Breakfast will broadcast every Friday for half an hour from 8.30am throughout the Premier League season. Robbie will be joined by big-name guests each week. The new show is in addition to Robbie’s work on 5 live’s long-running football phone-in show 606 on Saturdays.
Chris Sutton and Alistair Bruce-Ball, whose commentary pairing has been one of 5 live’s biggest successes of the World Cup, will be among a number of new voices on 606 on Sundays. The pair have been a hit with fans and this means their partnership will continue beyond Russia.
Tonight’s (Wednesday July 11) England and Croatia game will be live on 5 live with commentary from John Murray and Chris Waddle. Mark Chapman will present build-up ahead of the match live from Moscow from four pm. The station’s coverage will also be available on the 麻豆约拍 Sport website and on FM on the 麻豆约拍’s 39 Local Radio stations in England. Kelly Cates will present reaction after the game.
