Seven rockets firing

On the seventh day of Christmas... celebrate the New Year with a bang!

Big Wheel and the Arndale Centre

After much discussion, the decision's been taken to mark the New Year in Manchester with a fireworks display in Exchange Square.

It’s the first time since the Millennium that an official display has taken place.

In 2000, it was marked in Albert Square. But this time, fireworks will be fired from the roof of the Arndale Centre in front of a city centre crowd gathered in front of the Triangle.

Big Wheel

There’s even the chance for the more extravagant reveller to get out of the throng and enjoy the whole spectacle from the relative warmth of a Big Wheel capsule, as the attraction is running a special late night service until 2am.

Fireworks in Manchester

Fireworks: NOT in Albert Square

NB No alcohol will be allowed in the Square and the roads in the area will be temporarily closed for the duration of the fireworks display.

If you don’t want to take the car into the city and don’t fancy taking a taxi home, there will be special late night trams running from the city centre to Eccles until half past midnight, and Bury and Altrincham until quarter to one, as well as extra bus services running until 4am.
