The albums, released in 1971 and 1972 respectively, were originally released on John Peel’s Dandelion label, but are to get a new lease of life on local imprint Ozit Records.

"Vinyl is making a comeback and the sound [on these albums] has a broader frequency range and is a warmer sound, especially as we have pressed them on thick 180 gram vinyl like 1960's records."

The reissues have come about because the band managed to get the rights for them back from Dandelion – something that proved to be a bit of battle. Others on the label weren’t so lucky, though as Chris explains, that didn’t matter so much to them.

The Way We Live's A Candle For Judith

"Artists like Medicine Head and Clifford T Ward went on to have major sales with their subsequent record labels after Dandelion, but the best selling two albums for the Dandelion label were The Way We Live's 'A Candle For Judith' and Tractor's 'Tractor' and they have become the mostly highly priced on the collector's market.

"We felt it was morally right that if Dandelion was not going to keep the albums in print, we should be able to buy the rights back so we did in around 1998, with help from the Musicians Union."

The eagle-eyed will have spotted that the first album isn’t actually credited to Tractor, but to The Way We Live.

Tractor's Tractor

Chris explains that the name change was the result of a chance remark by their label boss, the late great John Peel.

"John signed The Way We Live in late 1970 and their first LP came out in 1971. In 1972, before the second album was released, he suggested the name Tractor for the band in a telephone conversation. He was on the phone from Peel Acres and looking out of his window into the fields."
