| Last year's fun at Dpercussion (Shirlaine Forrest) |
Already confirmed on the live side of the music for the Castlefield-based shindig are the Sunshine Underground, The Rumblestrips, The Whip, Virus Syndicate and Broke’n’English, while DJing on one of the days will be Norman Jay, Chibuku Shake Shake, David Holmes, Jah Wobble, Belle & Sebastian, Cherrystones, Sankeys, Domu, Tramp, Greg Wilson and Andy Votel. The organisers Ear To The Ground are working hard to add many more names to that list, and given that in the past decade, there’s been appearances from Badly Drawn Boy, The Fall, Black Twang, Nine Black Alps, Snow Patrol, Mr Scruff, 808 State, Simian, Stanton Warriors and Elbow, chances are high that they’ll be an impressive mix of established excellence and spirited new talent. Dpercussion is the UK’s third largest free festival and started life as Re:percussion, a non-political response to the IRA bomb that decimated Manchester city centre in 1996. Last year, the event reached new heights when over 50,000 people crammed into the site to catch sets from the likes of Aim, The Longcut, Cherry Ghost and Liam Frost. Just like at last year’s event, entry to the site will be free but there’s an optional £2 donation. Given that once you’re inside, there’s over a hundred acts and DJs to enjoy, it’s not exactly much to ask for, is it? Dpercussion's 10th Anniversary is at Castlefield Basin on Sat 4 and Sun 5 August. Both days run from noon to 11pm. |
