Monaco revisited

Seven years since they last played together live, Peter Hook and David Potts have announced that they’ll be sharing a stage once again for a charity show.

Hooky and Pottsy will be playing at the Hard Rock Café on Wednesday 21st March in aid of the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy charity.

As Monaco, the pair sold a million albums worldwide in the late '90s and are best remembered for the smash What Do You Want From Me?, an instantly recognisable slice of pop somplete with sha-la-las and Peter’s trademark bass sound.

It’s not the first time they’ve worked together since Monaco’s split in 2000. After they called it a day, Hook re-joined New Order, while Potts went on to write and produce, initially as Ram, and released a solo album, Coming Up For Air, earlier this year, which features a star turn by the bass legend on the track, Roll Up!

The pair aren’t about to be drawn into talk of a permanent reformation though.

"It’s very unlikely," says Hook, "I thought I’d got rid of Pottsy and he thought he’d got rid of me but a one-off like this for Nordoff-Robbins is worth doing."

Potts agrees: "We’ll let you know if it was a good idea afterwards!"
