In the note, handwritten by band member Jim Glennie and posted on the band’s website, the bassist apologies for the group’s length of absence, explaining that he and original guitarist Larry Gott had been working on new material since the band went their separate ways in 2001 but that it had only come together when Tim Booth had joined them for a session.

"The stuff sounded amazing," Jim continues. "There’s something special happens when the three of us play together. I don’t understand it and I don’t want to, but it was inspired, exciting and complete.

"Exactly what lies ahead is hard to say, but with the tour and a new album, the future looks rosy for me and all James fans."

"With my hand on my heart, I can honestly say I’ve never been as excited by a period in James musical history as now. Exactly what lies ahead is hard to say, but with the tour and a new album, the future looks rosy for me and all James fans."

The five shows in April, plus two previously unannounced gigs at Brixton and Glasgow, sold out within five hours of lines opening on Friday 26 January. The band make their homecoming at the MEN Arena on Saturday 28 April.
