Have some Pride!

Manchester is ready to embrace its biggest Pride weekend yet, as the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities (and anyone else who wants to enjoy the party) throw their annual celebration this weekend.

The Big Weekend

  • Manchester Pride's Big Weekend runs from Friday 25 to Monday 28 August
  • Entry to the Village is by ticket only. Tickets are Β£15
  • The Pride Parade runs through the city centre and is free

As always, the highlight of the weekend will be the Pride Parade on Saturday, which follows a new route this year which will take its smorgasbord of fun and colour right through the heart of the city centre.

Elsewhere, the Canal Street celebrations are a ticketed event again, but they look like being worth the money, as the dance excellence of Bodyrockers and R’n’B delights of Jamelia headlining the musical fun on the Main Stage on Sunday and Monday respectively, with support from a wild mix of artists, including Lorraine, Hazel Dean, 4 Poofs on a Piano and Marc Almond.

Alongside the fun, there’ll also be the quiet contemplation and respect of the Candlelit Vigil around the Beacon of Hope (the UK’s only permanent memorial for people who have or have suffered from HIV/AIDS) in Sackville Park on Monday.

Add to all that, four days of non-stop partying and special events in the clubs and bars of the Village, and it looks like being something we Mancunians can be rightfully proud of!
