A Snowfight’s chance in Leeds

August usually provides some much needed rest for hard-working bands, but for Snowfight In The City Centre, it’s turning into a busy month! Having played Dpercussion, the band are off to turn in some "light relief", as they put it, at Leeds Festival.

What have you been up to recently?

SITCC live!

  • Catch Snowfight's set at Leeds Festival at 7.30pm on the Topman Unsigned Stage on Friday 25 August
  • Snowfight play the Roadhouse as part of Electric Circus Unplugged on Sunday 27 August. Entry is free

"We have been recording our forthcoming single, Listen, with Jim Spencer, who’s worked with New Order and the Charlatans. It’s the first time we have used an external producer.

"We are playing on the Friday, which is a heavy rock night, so we are either going to be light relief for the indie kids or be completely out of place!"
Snowfight know their place at Leeds Festival

"Usually our bass player does all the recording and mixing, and he does a great job, but it’s nice to have an outside point of view. It’s not out until October though, so you’ll have to wait till then. Aside from that, we have just been gigging and writing some more tunes."

Did you enjoy Dpercussion?

"It was brilliant. We’ve been a few times to the festival and always enjoyed it, so it was great to actually be on the bill, even if we were on first at 12.30! It was a top day though: Liam Frost, the Whip, Polytechnic, Liam Fray - the list of excellent Manc acts goes on…"

You're playing Leeds Festival. How did that come about?

"Someone told us we were in some competition or something to get on the bill for Leeds, but we didn’t really think much of it. I don’t think we put ourselves in for it – I think it was Sandman promotions. Anyway, it should be mega. We are playing on the Friday, which is a pretty heavy rock night, so we are either going to be light relief for the indie kids or be completely out of place!"

Have you been to the festival before?

"A few years back, yeah. But we got tired of camping in the rain. It should be a lot better playing at it though. We went to Benicassim festival in Spain this summer, which was amazing. A festival on the beach - what more can you ask for?!"

Apart from playing, what are you looking forward to?

"We’ve only got day passes and we’ve got an acoustic gig with manchestermusic.co.uk at the Roadhouse on Sunday 27 so we can’t stay for the whole weekend, which means we will miss the Shins and the Spinto Band, I think. But we are going to make sure we get right to the front for Pearl Jam on the Friday…"

You seem to have been taken up by football as theme music, what with the Football Focus and Sky Sports includes. How does that feel?

"Ha! Yeah, we keep switching on football highlights and hearing instrumental versions of our tunes. It’s great! We’re big Man U fans so we are just waiting for our music to United highlights."
