The Bigger Picture

The Bigger Picture is part of a major experiment in public space broadcasting in Manchester. It comprises a weekly programme of video shorts by amateur and professional filmmakers shown on the Big Screen in Exchange Square.

FABULOUS FOOTY ARCHIVE!

You can't have failed to notice that it's football time again! To compliment the Big Screen coverage of the UEFA Euro 2008 championship, The Bigger Picture presents a fantastic collection of footballing archive compiled by the North West Film Archive at Manchester Metropolitan University.

George Best Big Screen footy archive

See if you can spot your favourite team and watch them evolve from very droopy drawers of the first years up to the very short shorts of the 70's! Footage includes Burnley v Manchester United 1970 (G Best), and Blackburn Rovers v West Bromwich Albion 1898.

GREATER MANCHESTER SCHOOLS FILM FESTIVAL

The Big Screen is also playing host to six films made by local school children, highlights from a festival taking place in the city this month.

You can enjoy an alien's guide to being at school, animation with a global warming message, jazzy visuals and something to put you off visiting the hairdresser for years to come!

VETERANS DAY

Look out too for some fascinating war archive footage featuring Manchester and Mancunian service men and women - being shown on screen on Friday 27th June. This unique footage comes from the North West Film Archive and is being shown to coincide with the Manchester Veterans Day parade.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Bigger Picture is the visual arts and film programme curated for the Big Screen by Cornerhouse. The programme runs Monday to Friday at 9:05, 12:05, 14:05, 17:05 and 22:35 and at varying times across the weekend, although times may vary due to other Big Screen committments.
