Why are you involved with Sounds From The Other City? "Good question, I don’t really know! I run a small folk club in South Manchester, I think we are doing well, so Zoe [Rain and Shine] suggested to Mark and Murray [the organisers] that we do a folk gig in a church, which sounds good to me. I went to last year’s event and it was right good, this year will be even better, especially with all the promoters involved. There will be something for everyone, yet we are linked with a strong passion for music!" Who's the stand-out act on your stage? "All of them! As a whole, the Red Deer Club stage is probably a ‘best of’ selection from the past year. Andy Robbins is totally in his own league and I don’t think many people in Manchester have heard him, yet he is only down road in Stoke! Last year, it was a shock to all when he played at the Red Deer Club, amazing stuff. Also, John Smith is gonna be a star!" Why is Sounds From The Other City important?

"I think it brings together some of Manchester’s 'hottest' promoters in one day, you’re spoilt for choice and it’s such value for money. Just to go to any gig these days can cost an arm an' a leg, but for seven quid, you’ve got nearly 40 bands in some of the best venues in Salford, particularly the Sacred Trintiy Church, which is gonna be rather special indeed!" If you had to choose between the music of Salford and Manchester, which would it be? "Salford has had such a big effect over me over the past 18 months, Rain or Shine was such a big influence over me, and it’s what made me start the Red Deer Club, plus the Kings Arms is the best pub in the world, with ace music and some right characters. We DJed there on New Year’s Eve for El Diablos Social Club, and it was the best NYE in Manchester ever! So I think I would choose Salford because Manchester city centre can be full of pretentious idiots!" |
