Amtul Mateen Tahir

My name is Amtul Mateen Tahir. I was born in Pakistan. I am 44 years old and I have 2 children. I came to the United Kingdom in 1984. I am a housewife and my hobbies include reading books and collecting stamps.

When I was in Pakistan I saw the Wedding of Princess Diana. I had never been to England and it all looked very exotic and different to me.

It was a fairytale wedding she was a very beautiful girl. Three years later, I emigrated to the United Kingdom. I always watched out for Diana on television and in the newspapers. I admired her so much because of her fashion sense and her looks and the way she helped people with aids and from Third World countries. She really was a Queen of Hearts.

When she died in 1997, I had been in England for 18 years. I watched her funeral on TV. I cried when Elton John sang a song β€œCandle in the Wind” which was very sad .The whole country came to a standstill, and this time I really felt a part of it. I'll always remember the flowers in front of Kensington Palace.

I loved her so much that I started collecting stamps, mugs and souvenirs. Every now and again I go in my drawer for something and I see them there. I stop what I am doing and take some time to remember her.
