The burglary

By Zahida Parveen
Zahida Parveen came to England from Pakistan in 2004 as her husband was working in this country.

Zahida

My name is Zahida Parveen. I came from Pakistan last year because my husband was working in this country. I always wanted to have some type of career and now I am a housewife. Last month I joined the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ course and now I am really enjoying it because I have got a lot of good friends now.

I always felt hesitation in speaking English with foreigners but now I feel better due to my confidence. Moreover it is a good opportunity to come out of the monotonous and tiring routine of my life.

I came to the United Kingdom from Pakistan last year with a lot of aspirations and desires. I always thought of England as the fairy land where my husband was living. I used to wander here in my dreams. I never imagined that such a horrible and unforgettable incident was going to happen to me.

I had an appointment at the doctor’s two weeks before and there was nobody at home. When I returned I was surprised to see that some burglars had broken into my house and took away my jewellery and all my savings. It was unbelievable for me that people could commit such crimes, even in this country about which I had such good feelings.

The burglars went into every corner of the house. They were so mean that they did not even leave my son’s money box. I had some good memories in my bag which they took away. I had some diaries in which I used to write my heart felt feelings which I could not describe to anyone.

I was too grief-stricken and unable to utter a word to the police. The really heart rending fact is that the police could not arrest them and even today I have a hope in my heart that an angel may throw my bag in my back yard. I know it’s ridiculous to have such hopes.
