Album of the Year: Fingathing
Album of the Year: Fingathing

The Best Mancunian Album of 2004

To explain, this is the vote for the best album by an artist from Manchester or a band with one or more members from Manchester in 2004.

and the winner, as voted by the users of this site, is...

Fingathing - …And The Big Red Nebula Band (45%)

Fingathing - ...And The Big Red Nebula Band

What we said...
"The Big Red Nebula Band has all the ingredients that made you fall in love with Fingathing - the rolling basslines, the twisted melodies and, of course, the freaky cover art - but it's all come together to produce what could be one of the albums of the year." Chris Long, 10/05/04

also nominated...

Morrissey – You Are The Quarry (36%)

Morrissey - You Are The Quarry

What we said...
"For better or worse, You Are The Quarry is an album that no-one could have expected Morrissey to have come up with. It is angry, arrogant, audacious and occasionally astonishing. Come Christmas, we might just say it's the biggest and best surprise that Manchester has had all year. And that's why it's good to have Morrissey back." Chris Long, 17/05/04

Badly Drawn Boy – One Plus One is One (10%)

Badly Drawn Boy - One Plus One Is One

What we said...
"There is no-one quite like Damon Gough around at the moment. Amongst a sea of singer songwriters, he is a rough cut original, writing songs so achingly honest that they feel like a kidney punch, and with One Plus One Is One, he's produced a masterpiece." Chris Long, 21/06/04

The Earlies – These Were The Earlies (7%)

The Earlies - These Were The Earlies

What we said...
"Quite simply, These Were the Earlies is this years Deserter’s Songs. If that sentence means anything to you, you’d better purchase this album. If not, I suspect the new Busted album will blow your mind instead." Steven Long, 05/08/04

Rebelski – Stickers On Keys (2%)

Rebelski - Stickers On Keys

What we said...
"Stickers On Keys is not perfect, but it is one of those albums that goes in your stereo and never comes out again, growing and blossoming with every listen. It’s a fine mark on the Mancunian musical landscape all of his own." Chris Long, 25/11/04

Rachael
Hey! How is this a fair poll when we have no say in the nominees! Also, there should be a category for Best single, in which case my vote is for 'Falling/Something New,' by Pioneers, released on Northern Ambition, earlier this year.

Jemma
None of these!!! Hope of the states

Gor
BDB has lost the plot.. he makes me snore

Des
You just beat fingathing. Strength to strength

Andy C
Solarized Ian Brown his best yet!!

Neil Smith
You Are The Quarry - easily the best Manchester album, and one of Morrissey's best.

Dave Range
Morrissey had faded to a cherished memory until this record came along. A true return to form for Manchester's long absent and greatest son.
