Council condemns teenage killing

Croydon Council has taken the unusual step of publicly condemning the latest killing in the borough.

Cabinet Member responsible for Safety and Cohesion in the borough Cllr Steve O'Connell said:Μύ β€œCroydon Council strongly condemns the killing of Nilanthan Murddi, a 17-year-old teenager from Croydon, on Saturday (16.08.08) morning".

"This random act of mindless violence has tragically cut short the life of a popular young man who had his whole future ahead of him."

Nilanthan is the 23 teenager to be killed violently in the capital this year.

A 30 year old man homeless labourer Steven Braithwaite has been charged with Nilanthan's murder.

Local people are now being urged to come forward with any information they may have and to call the incident room on 020 8721 4066.
