Audrey Edwards is a resident of the London Borough of Newham, a school governor and member of various voluntary committee groups within the London area.

When she started her journey Audrey Edwards knew little about the true nature of her ancestry. She knew that there was a slave trade, that many people had died to end its inhumane years of cruelty among the black population - taken from their home lands in Africa to be enslaved across the Atlantic, but to what extent had the slave trade taken it's toll on generations hence, and how had it all ended?

Audrey is now the Treasurer of Memorial 2007, an organization with the sole purpose to erect a permanent memorial to honour the millions of unnamed enslaved Africans and their descendants who were transported during the era of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. The group has with the help of the Department of Culture, Media and Sports (DCMS) have secured a site, approximately 1,080 square metres in Hyde Park for a sculpture and memorial garden of remembrance.

The committee with professionals from the arts, museums,Μύ galleries and the Royal Parks are in the process of short listing for a memorial sculpture and will have marquettes (small version of the sculptures) of the two final short listed pieces on display in Hyde Park next to The Lido Cafe, south side of the serpentine.

The marquettes will be on display for public consultation for two consecutive weekends on the following dates 5th, 6th 7th, 12th & 13th May 2007. The winning sculpture will be on display at City Hall.

The memorial garden will be a place of remembrance, for public and educational visits and it's expected to be unveiled in late 2008.
