West Derby - a history

Click on an area of Elizabeth's map to explore West Derby village

West Derby has been around for a very long time. It was originally a Viking village hundreds of years ago. The Vikings named it West Derby, which means ‘deer village’. It was surrounded by a forest. A river also built the village, which was useful, because cargo could come in and the villagers had fresh water to drink.
