Frank's flag

Frank Graceffa's giant LFC flag.

Frank's Flag

With Liverpool preparing to take on Chelsea in the first leg of the Champion鈥檚 League semi-final, one Liverpool fan has been expressing his support for the team in a big way.

A familiar site on the Kop at Anfield, Frank Graceffa鈥檚 huge flag in support of Liverpool F.C. can easily be draped across two semi-detached houses. 鈥淚roning it takes some doing鈥 laughs Frank.

The story of the flag dates back to the 1984 European Cup Final when Frank noticed the incredible banners displayed by Italian fans. 鈥淚 thought I鈥檇 love to have something like that for our club鈥 says Frank. Eight years ago, Frank started making the great flag with just a badge in the center at first, and as more materials became available, the project grew, as did the cost of making it. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a lot of money!鈥 says Frank.

"We don鈥檛 need to be given flags to wave, we do it anyway, because that鈥檚 who we are."

Frank Graceffa

Quietly confident

The flag features Liverpool鈥檚 club crest in the middle with five European stars underneath. Around that are the domestic trophies won by Liverpool F.C. and European trophies across the top. Even the managers that led Liverpool to their victories are represented on the flag. 鈥淪hankly, Paisley, they鈥檙e all on there鈥 Frank notes.

Frank remains quietly confident about the semi-finals against Chelsea. 鈥淭he biggest problem is finding the yellow material to add a sixth star! We don鈥檛 need to be given flags to wave, we do it anyway, because that鈥檚 who we are.鈥
