On Valentines night, I headed to Barfly in Liverpool to spend my night away from all the slushy, lovey-dovey couples. When I turned up, I was met with heart-shaped sweets and decorations! After a confused half hour, I began to realise I’d been welcomed into the wrong room and was now patiently awaiting The Rascals, hmmmm this was not starting the evening off well!

Eventually, I arrived at the correct stage and only had a short wait until You Me at Six kicked off.ÌýThe crowd was young, vibrant and an agreeable ambience had descended on the typically murky and somewhat sinister setting.

Their lyrics are real and from the heart, failed relationships, being let down by friends, life in general – don’t let this dampen your appetite for some light hearted musical enlightenment however, the focus should definitely be on the tunes. The sound, I’d say, is more like an American style Indie sound (not as exciting as sex with your hot girlfriend perhaps?!). Although I’ve read this band are an `Emo Quintet’, this is definitely not what I would call Emo.

Jumping beans

Visually, the show was excellent, white lighting strobes creating shadows of the twisting, excitable band members who had morphed into a throng of jumping beans.

The venue came to life in its entirety with the music and the spirit and energy of the congregation, admittedly it became ridiculously easy to become engrossed and sucked in.

These unsigned guys are definitely chart material, not to be taken too seriously and they really appeal in an easy listening up-beat fashion.Ìý Its always nice to witness that endearing value of a band who can have a laugh and not get caught up too much with themselves in emotional and selfish over-indulgence.

If you do get the opportunity, you should see this band live, but you’ll have to be swift, their current UK tour is already nearly sold out.
