Minuteman hopes time is right

Aspiring Leeds-based filmmaker Sam Donovan is hoping to make the finals of the Orange BAFTA 60 Seconds Of Fame competition.

The competition run by Orange and BAFTA, offers want to-be film directors the opportunity to submit a 60 second short film they have created, to a regional heat on the theme 'unite' .

There are 15 regions, the winner from each region then goes into the final in London, of which the film selected as the overall winner from all of the regional finalists will be broadcast to millions during the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's televised BAFTA Ceremony.

Leeds based short film director, Sam Donovan is hoping his minute's worth can carry him all the way to a place in the finals after voting began on Monday 28 January 2008.
"We had a really great, simple idea" says Donovan, "which we filmed on a rainy Saturday morning in December entirely on location in Hyde Park with ten great child actors and about half as many crew. It was madness and absolutely freezing, but was such great fun to do."

"The only problem we encountered during the whole project, aside from the weather was that there was no budget. We had to find companies that were willing to help us out in the production of the film'. Sam teamed up with Leeds based production company Limehouse Films, VTR North and Provision, who produced, edited and supplied camera equipment for the film.

"Without them we could not have achieved the results we have. I think it is great when local companies support aspiring film makers and I can't thank them enough for what they have done." says Sam.

The competition relies on the public to vote via phone or on the internet. Voting opened on Monday 28 January and is open until midnight on Sunday 3 February 2008. The winner of each region goes through to a place in the grand final, and will also get invited to the BAFTAs to mingle with the stars and see their film on the big screen infront of the BAFTA audience.
