The Leeds Young People's Film Festival, (LYPFF) the UK's annual leading film extravaganza for young people, returns for its eighth edition from Thursday 29 March –Μύ Friday 6 April 2007. During the event Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Leeds will present a screening of controversial environmental film An Inconvenient Truth featuring former US Vice-President Al Gore. It will be at 7pm on Tuesday 3 April at Leeds Town Hall, and will include a discussion after the film with a climate expert about how we can all make a difference. Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Leeds and this website have teamed up with LYPFF to offer budding young film reviewers the chance to get their opinions broadcast. From Monday 26 March listen to Andrew and Georgey on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Leeds between 8-9am for your chance to win free tickets to the festival. In return you us what you thought of the film and write a review for the website. The YPFF is presented by Leeds City Council with a spectacular selection of new films from around the world made especially for young people. The Film Festival will also include a huge range of film-related workshops and young people from all over the city will have the opportunity to get involved and take part. The Film Festival runs for a week and opens, on Thursday 29 March at the Vue Cinema, Cardigan Fields, with the UK Premiere of "The Ugly Duckling & Me!"Μύ- a heart-warming re-telling of the Hans Christian Anderson fairytale. Festival-goers will also get the opportunity to be the first in the country to see such films as "Wild Chicks", a comedy adventure about the coolest girl gang in Germany, and "The Lost Treasure Of The Knights Templar", a Danish cross between Indiana Jones and The Da Vinci Code. These films will also be simultaneously translated as an actor will read the subtitles aloud to make it easier to understand for younger children. Older children who are in search of a few scares will be able to get their fill of horror with the UK Premieres of movies such as "Dorm", a ghost story from Thailand, and Austrian thriller "Dead In Three Days". There'll also be the chance to check out some classic movies for young people on the big screen including the classic fantasy adventure, "Labyrinth", starring David Bowie; and the animated "Transformers: The Movie". Also at Vue Cinema will be a special parents and babies screening of "Dirty Dancing", an opportunity for parents or carers to relax and enjoy the film while in like-minded company without worrying about keeping babies and toddlers quiet. Young people will also have their chance of cinematic glory as inventive and imaginative short films will be screened as part of the 4th Leeds National Young Filmmakers Award, with a panel of film professionals offering helpful advice. There will also be a screening of "Sub Zero", a film about anti-social behaviour devised by and starring young people from Middlesbrough. Young filmmakers will also get the chance to take part in various workshops offered in the Film Academy. These workshops will include Film FX, a short filmmaking project using mobile phone technology to create short films. There'll also be a workshop on Machinima, the new craze that's sweeping the worlds of gaming and filmmaking alike and a presentation by Film Street, an inspiring and interactive world where children and families can learn about the joys of filmmaking. Other workshops include From Manga To Anime, which will teach you everything you need to know to become a manga and anime artist, and the One Day Film Challenge.
