The return of the LYPFF

The seventh Leeds Young People's Film Festival takes place from Thursday 6 - Sunday 16 April 2006.

LYPFF facts

Other films at the 2006 festival will include the spooky Ghost of Canterville and some children's favourites in the shape of The Princess Bride and Jason and the Argonauts.

All the information about the festival, including screening times and details about the workshops and how to book a place on them, can found in the festival brochure available from venues across the city including Leeds City Art Gallery and the City Centre Box Office.

The festival opens with a preview screening of Ice Age 2: The Meltdown, the sequel to the chilly box-office hit computer animation from 2001.

Other highlights will include the UK premieres of Bonkers, a charming tale from The Netherlands about a little girl who brings home an elephant, and Valo, a dramatic Finnish movie made in association with UNICEF. An actor will read the subtitles for these films aloud to make them easier for younger children to understand.

The festival also include the third Leeds National Filmmakers Award, with a panel of film professionals judging some of the best short films made by young people.

And there's more...

As well as all the on-screen action there will be workshops and events across the city to tie in with the festival.

Returning for 2006 is Film Academy, a series of workshops where young people can learn about different aspects of the movie business, from costume design to sound effects. Other workshops and master classes will take place on directing, stunt work and animation.

Play> On The Square will be a day-long celebration of play on Millennium Square, from breakdance to gaming and mobile phone filming all working interactively with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Big Screen.
