Rob is a former nightclub bouncer who has decided to re-train as a farrier. A distinct change in career but heβs always had an interest in horses and his five-year-old daughter has a pony. However, heβs currently unemployed and for the past month has spent many hours every week voluntarily mucking-in at the Middleton Park Equestrian Centre in south Leeds. The centre is home to the Riding for Disabled Association and Rob has really enjoyed helping out the riders with a disability, and is looking forward to working more closely with them.Μύ Rob says: βItβs a different job compared to being a doorman! Thereβs no stress, and I really want to work with people with learning difficulties.β So what is stopping men coming forward to volunteer? In a recent survey Timebank, the national volunteering charity, asked 100 men in Leeds if they would like to volunteer skills or services and three out of four said they would - if they had more time.
