Ruth was born in London and brought up in Peterbrough, however she claims an early link with Hull as she attended university in the city. Ruth studied European Studies and spent part of her degree course at the University of Chemnitz in Germany. After university she worked for a broadcasting consultancy in London. Then she gained a post graduate certificate in Broadcast Journalism in Sheffield.

Early in her broadcasting career Ruth freelanced for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ and independent radio stations in Sheffield, Hull and Wiltshire, she also made several reports for John Peel's Radio 4 programme 'Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Truths'.

After working as a journalist with ITV regional television in the Midlands, Ruth moved to the fledgling Channel Five as North of England and Scotland reporter.

While at Five, Ruth brought two exclusive reports from inside Chernobyl's contamination zone. She also produced a series of reports on post-war rebuilding in Kosovo. Closer to home, she was the first reporter to enter Britain's pioneering Strip School for men in Sunderland (as well as being the last to leave).

Following a year spent travelling the world, Ruth landed a job with Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Humberside. She lives in Barton-Upon-Humber in North Lincolnshire in a wonky house with a cow shed in her back garden. She is married to a man she met in Hull's Spiders nightclub when they were both students. They have two children, and a pet hamster.

Ruth is a natural explorer, whether it be trekking to the birthplace of Buddha in Southern Nepal or tracking down a man with prize-pigeons in West Bridlington.
