Ray and Sally

On call around the world

When natural disasters strike it is hard not to be moved by TV pictures of devastation and human suffering. While most of us are only able to donate money for the relief effort, an East Yorkshire couple are on call to offer practical help.

As a member of the International Rescue Corps Ray Gray can be mobilised for a rescue mission within hours. Ray's bags are always packed ready for the call as I found out when I visited him at his home in Beverley.

Ray's partner Sally Smith offers help in other ways, as a live-dummy for International Peace Corps training exercises.Μύ She spends most weekends stuck in tunnels or under concrete simulating disaster situations. Sally told me she was initially tricked by Ray to volunteer for the role.
