Chris only got into cycling after his retirement. Having always being interested in fitness through jogging, he wanted to find something that wasn't going to place a strain on his joints and so took to the saddle.

One of his first ambitions was to cycle a hundred miles and it wasn't long before he achieved his aim with the help of the Grimsby and Louth CTC. The club has a small yet active membership who regularly cycle around the area. Although a cycle ride can take all day, many members join en route and do as much as they wish to stopping off at various locations for some well earned refreshment.

Chris has long since passed his 100 mile ambition and has taken his interests worldwide. He's cycled around Thailand and is hoping to do a long distance ride in Australia. One of his biggest achievements is cycling across the United States of America.

Ahead of his 4,000 mile journey he had his bike shipped to a local cycle store in the states where it was reassembled. There, he met up with some like minded cyclists and his epic three month journey began.

Staying a local fire stations and churches, the route, which is off the beaten track took them through some breathtaking countryside. In some instances the scenery seemed unchanged for miles which he says can be demanding mentally as it is physically.

Of the six that started only Chris and one other completed the journey but he came away with some happy memories and still keeps in touch with some of this riding companions from that trip.

Chris's picture is of him on the Hoosier Pass over 1,100 feet above sea level in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

Chris would encourage anyone in the area to join the club and further details of the club's activities and contact details can be found on their website through the link on this page. He said people of all ages are involved, the club has one eighty-two year old member who regularly cycles 70-80 miles.
