Lucas Meagor

Running for charity is almost a full time job for this goverment worker based in Beverley. He's run races all over Britain but has needed his passport on many occassions for races in other countries.

Although Lucas's job is about transport as he works for the DVLA in Beverley in East Yorkshire, he is usually found travelling great distances on foot. A member of the Beverley Athletic Club since his move from the south a couple of years ago, he's continued his fundraising efforts in support of a range of charities many linked to Christian Aid.

In the late 1990's Lucas wanted to run in the London Marathon but due to its popularity was unable to secure a place. However having signed up to run on behalf of Christian Aid, his wish was about to come true. There was an incentive for Lucas to do well as he was supporting the Running Water campaign focusing on building wells in Africa. He says running for charity can give you an extra boost when the going gets tough.

In an effort to do something different to attract attention Lucas decided to pay a trip to the hairdressers which is where some of his unusual hairstyles came in. He became a regular visitor to have his hair styled to reflect whichever the event he'd be running in. Here the theme of running and water are married together to produce an unusual style.

The main picture on this page shows Lucas meeting Dr Daleep Murkarji, Director of Christian Aid who was to prove an inspiration to Lucas in terms of his faith and what he could do to help others. Lucas for a time was chair of the Methodist National Youth Executive

Here Lucas has just completed one his earliest London marathons which demands a rigorous training schedule and the right foods to sustain you. Lucas' says scrambled eggs are a key food on race day.

Running has become a way of life and he's competed in races in Cardiff, Belfast, Reading and numerous other places. One particular highlight was running the New York marathon with his brother David who's also a keen runner. Family members joined Lucas and David in New York to wish them well and lend their support.

Lucas's family is very important to him which is why this year he's running to raise money for Diabetes UK. His father was recently diagnosed and this has given Lucas another reason to do well. This weekend Lucas is in Edinburgh for another marathon and is really looking forward to taking part. With races including the Humber Bridge half-marathon, the Walkington 10k, the Bristol half-marathon, a full marathon in Berlin and the Great North Run to name a few 2008 proves once again, "Lucas Keep Running".
