Su Dillon

Amsterdam, Las Vegas and Naples are just a few of the places that Su has visited over the years. Travel is in her blood and has taken up a career that has been her dream ambition.

Ever since Su was a little girl she's been obsessed with travel. From the moment she stepped aboard an aeroplane for a summer holiday with her family she became enamoured with the idea of being involved with the travel industry. In the early days she harboured thoughts of becoming an airline hostess and although she never got to walk down the aisle dispensing refreshments to thirsty air passengers, she's always had a connection with transport and travel.

Sue loves to go on holiday and has visited Las Vegas three times. She says it's a city that never sleeps. There are no clocks at the plush casinos and it's easy to lose all sense of time. Although not much of a gambler herself Su says that the sums of money being played for at the casinos are huge. She's seen many 'high rollers' playing for big money at the 'craps' tables accompanied by their bodyguards.

Sailing cruises are also something Su likes to indulge in. Waking up in a different port each day is an experience not to be missed. In the picture above Su (with the pink wig) is enjoying life aboard a North Sea Ferry. Su got together with friends on a short break to pep things up in the fashion stakes for a fun seventies night. No stranger to the world of ferries, Su worked for P&0 within the transportation section but was made redundant after the company moved much of the work to Dover a few years ago.

The Humber Pilots' Service performs a vital service to shipping in the Humber with up to a hundred shipping movements a day in this busy estuary. Ships need to be guided in and out of the estuary around the dangerous sandbanks and all this activity has to be co-ordinated 24 hours a day due to the movement of the tides. Su is proud to have worked with the pilots despite a gruelling shift pattern. Since she's become a travel counsellor she's becomeΜύ friends with some of the pilots helping them plan their holidays.

Su's 40th birthday had an unusual twist. She found herself, husband and friends making a fashion statement about this landmark birthday by wearing specially made t-shirts proclaiming her age for the world to see.

Training to become a travel agent took Su two years to learn her trade looking at all aspects of travel. Su has also trained others in travel geography and customer services.

Most recently Su has become a travel counsellor. With more and more of the larger holiday companies amalgamating, there's an emerging market for people who help others make their own holidays. Su is part of a network of travel counsellors who work under one umbrella called: Travel Counsellors. They offer an individual service to find people the best ways to travel and see the world.

Sue says she's now doing her dream job and looks forward to many happy years of travelling and helping others get the best out of their holidays. Su's also looking at a new outlet for her organisational talents. She's organising a bridal fair and says it's a new challenge which she's meeting head on.
