Rob Carlisle

Rob Carlisle is an active person who's hobbies include scouting and sailing.

Rob Carlisle currently lives in Hull, but it was whilst living in Hornsea in 1992 he found an new interest in life; scouting. In his radio interview he explains how became a scout leader, a role which he thoroughly enjoys. He describes why scouting offers so much to youngsters who often come to him and learn something of living life in the great outdoors and away from the glare of the computer screen. Since he's become involved, he says: "Despite starting from a zero base we've managed to survive and prosper as a group".

Rob has children of his own who are well passed scouting age. He says:"My son Tom lives in Manchester where he teaches singing amongst other things. He tells me he wants to go back to college to do a post grad course in singing. Don’t ask me why! My eldest daughter, Laura is nearing the end of her training at law school in London. So we're all looking forward to having a solicitor in the family. Amy, my youngest, is in her final year at Huddersfield where she has been studying textiles".

One of Rob's great passions is sailing. He took it up as a hobby after taking a course on sailing at a club in East Yorkshire.Μύ He says: "I've done various sailing things, this summer (2007) I helped to bring a yacht back from Poland and had an enjoyable crossing of the North Sea in a force 10".

He added: "The picture I've enclosed is one of a series I took when I helped my friend Fred, take his yacht up the River Hull from Hull Marina to Beverley. All the bridges were raised for us and apologies for any traffic delays at the time but we did do it outside the rush hour".

Rob and his Customs and Excise work colleagues both past and present often take part in sailboat challenges where they hire out boats and take part in races which he says can be quite quite challenging. Although financially it's not for the feint hearted. Waivers for the use of the boats can cost around Β£2000 and if the circumstances dictate, fees for any damages to the boats can be more.
