Kathryn Richmond

Kathryn Richmond is the Clerk responsible for much of the administration of what goes on in South Cave. Kathryn's heavily involved in the farmers' markets and in her interview on the Late Show she tells why eco-friendly bags have been such a big hit.

Kathryn has immersed in the life of the local community through her work which brings her into contact with many different people in a parish which has a population of around 4500.

She say; "As Clerk in South Cave, we administer the cemetery, allotments, the playpark, other open spaces, and have responsibility for the Town Hall (a Grade II listed building), and the Cemetery Chapel, as well as the Market. We also have street lights, benches, and look after the footpaths (public rights of way through the countryside)".

Kathryn's photo shows a snap taken from the South Cave Farmers' Market.Μύ She says: "We've been selling Hessian bags (which are environmentally friendly) at the market, with a secondary purpose of raising money for a local charity. This is the presentation of the money raised to the South Cave Nursing Aid Fund. The Chairman of the Parish Council, the Chairman of the Farmers Market Committee and representatives of the South Cave Surgery are in the photo.

She adds: "The Farmers' Market has been running in support of local producers since Christmas, 2001. The markets are a great community event and attract an average of 30 stalls. It's quite a busy market and is now certified by FARMA (Farm Retail and Markets Association).

The market draws people in from around the South Cave area in addition to people from further afield. There are various demonstrations to be seen on market days, such as' Straw Art'. Next year a blacksmith (wrought iron work) will also be demonstrating his skills".

In her interview Kathryn talks working with the local politicians and describes the kind of community there is in South Cave and reflects on what she's been involved with over the last seven years since she's been in post.
